Handcrafted Tapestry: Telling stories in thread.
I’m excited to share The Fury of Thor —a handcrafted tapestry inspired by the Norse God of Thunder.
This piece explores what happens when divine rage collides with human emotions. It’s not about the thunder we hear, but the storm we feel — the tension, the anticipation, the unraveling beneath the surface.
The tangled threads are intentional, echoing the wild energy of lightning caught mid-strike. The loose ends are equally deliberate, suggesting unresolved storms—within us and around us.

They represent the lingering battles, the held-back words, the emotions that don’t always find closure.
Though inspired by mythology, this work speaks of something deeply personal.
It’s about power and vulnerability. Chaos and control. The visible and the concealed.
For me, The Fury of Thor is more than an artwork—it’s a moment of quiet upheaval, stitched one thread at a time.

Puja Bhakoo is a globally acclaimed tapestry artist, creative writer, blogger, ad professional, award-winning poet, and author of a book of poems, Mood Swings. Over the years, she has explored multiple mediums of expression, eventually choosing thread as her most profound form of storytelling.
For nearly three decades, she co-founded and led a group of multi-channel advertising and creative solutions agencies. Later, she shifted her focus to tapestry art and philanthropic work—combining passion with purpose.
Reinventing Petit Point
In the 1990s, inspired by the vibrant cultural heritage of India’s western belt, Puja Bhakoo reimagined the ancient European art of Petit Point. She infused it with an Indo-ethnic sensibility, creating a distinctive style that bridges continents and eras.
Handcrafting Emotion
From her earliest years sketching expressive figures, her fascination with body language and facial nuance has shaped her visual storytelling. Her tapestries—both figurative and abstract—invite interpretation. Her works like Nude Aesthetics challenge conventional perspectives, urging viewers to engage beyond appearances.
Her mastery lies in blending detailed embroidery with emotional complexity. Her abstracted figures speak a non-verbal language—connecting at both intellectual and visceral levels.
Her background in graphic design and digital media further refines her process, enabling her to visualize complex compositions digitally, while leaving room for organic improvisation as each tapestry unfolds.
Tapestry-for-Charity
In 2015, she founded ‘Tapestry-for-Charity’, an initiative that channels proceeds from her art into the education and rehabilitation of underprivileged children—blending her creative practice with social action.
Her artistic journey, she believes, reflects the Japanese concept of Ikigai—where passion, mission, vocation, and profession converge.
Today, Puja Bhakoo’s eco-conscious, hand-embroidered tapestries are cherished by collectors worldwide, showcased in online galleries, premium furnishing stores, and solo exhibitions.
