In the dark, waiting, for a tidal wave...

By Sreela Das Gupta in Santiniketan, Bolpur, West Bengal

One is surrounded by a choking darkness

It steals our voice

It negates our identity

As citizens

As a people

As women

And undesired kings might wear their crowns

But the gold WILL tarnish one day

The thrones of sand

Washed away by a tidal force

Biding its time

And this is the hope I hold on to

For I am beyond

Disbelief and anger and revenge

It may be a mirage

But I do believe that the human spirit

WILL persist and truth will prevail

Somewhen

If not today

Sreela Das Gupta is an author and poet.
